GOLD COAST WRAP WITH UBET’S NICOLE THOMAS

-

WINNERS

■ The biggest plunge of the day that won was Robbers Cobber. Punters pinched the $5 and kept coming back for more, all the way down to $2.40. Despite over-racing early, the Bryan and Daniel Guy-trained gelding showed plenty of ticker and was able to fend off his only danger,

Infinite Reign.

■ Hasn’t Heart Of Australia turned it around for punters? After running around in strong maidens and just getting beaten at the short odds, the 4YO mare now has back to back wins. The UBET bookies were game pushing her out to $8.50 and she was crunched back in to $5.50. The John Meaghertrained galloper settled midfield, sprinted well and proved too strong.

■ Umberto came out of a very strong city race and opened up odds on but that was too short for punters, so he blew out to even money. The Gollan-trained 3YO went forward early, let down well and defied the drift. However, punters who were on should consider themselves lucky as the second place getter

Charming Lad would’ve won if he didn’t lay in.

LOSERS

■ It was a big ask for Kickstart My Heart to go from a maiden win straight to a class 2. Punters were confident he could get the job done and backed him from $2.70 in to $2.25. The Michael Costa-trained 4YO elected not to lead and then went for a rails run but got tightened. I can’t be certain he would’ve won but he didn’t have every possible chance. ■ There was no shortage of support for the Michael Costatrained Magic Panther. Punters enjoyed $8.50 early and took the $5.50 late. The 5YO jumped well, settled up on the speed but got shuffled back. He wasn’t able to sprint with them and finished a disappointing eighth.

NEXT TIME

■ Punters gorged themselves on the $9.50 offered about Torre Saracino and kept going back for seconds, making him start $4.20. One punter even invested $2200 on the 4YO at the $6. The Bruce Hill-trained gelding was dragged back to last and seemed happy to stay there. When he finally made his run the bird had flown.

■ In the biggest plonk of the day True Passion was backed from $8.50 in to $3.20. Unfortunately for punters, the Michael Nolan-trained 6YO got trapped wide and over-raced. Even though he had no business doing so, he ran on well to just miss and came third.
