Coast clubs on track for shot at QAFL flag

- TERRY WILSON

GOLD Coast clubs are set to occupy three of the top five for this year’s Queensland Australian Football League finals.

Labrador, Palm BeachCurrumbin and Broadbeach are sitting first, second and fourth respectively on the ladder with three rounds left to go before the play-offs, enhancing the chances of both a preliminary final and a grand final here.

Chasing a hat-trick of flags, Labrador wrapped up the minor premiership over the weekend with a tight result against Wilston-Grange while PBC all but assured themselves of second place for the finals by smashing Western Magpies.

Labrador are unbeaten on 52 points while PBC have 40 points and are eight clear of Mt Gravatt, the team the play next after a bye this weekend. They close with a final-round match against strugglers Sandgate.

Broadbeach are on 30 points with a tough draw against Wilston-Grange (away), Labrador (away) and Morningside (home).

Western Magpies (24) are the only ones who can knock the Cats out of the five although they have fixtures coming up against Labrador and Morningside.
