Bruising Broncos to push envelope

- TRAVIS MEYN

THE Broncos are the NRL’s newest bullies and insist they will not change their bruising ways after under-fire prop Adam Blair left Titans halfback Ashley Taylor with a knee injury.

For the second straight week Blair’s enforcer tactics have come under scrutiny fol- lowing his mistimed bump that resulted in teammate Andrew McCullough requiring knee surgery.

Blair stood on Taylor’s foot and pushed him after the Titans No.7 had passed the ball in the 58th minute of Saturday’s 54-0 derby thrashing at Cbus Super Stadium.

It is unclear whether Blair intended to stand on Taylor’s foot, but that is what caused the halfback’s knee to collapse and force him from the field after he heard a “crack”.

Taylor will undergo scans today and while Titans medicos predicted he had suffered a minor medial injury there is concerns with the way his knee buckled. Broncos lock Josh McGuire came under fire for treading on the ankle of Parramatta prop Tim Mannah and was repeatedly warned by referees during the Titans game for his tactics.

Boasting one of the smaller forward packs in the NRL, the Broncos have adopted a hard edge to match their opponents and Sam Thaiday said they would not be softening.

“It’s rugby league. It’s a contact sport,” he said.
