Dickson’s future up for debate

- LEA EMERY

THE Gold Coast City Council is today expected to discuss the future of CEO Dale Dickson at a full council meeting.

The discussions come after a shock move in June to reconsider Mr Dickson’s position when his contract expires at the end of the year.

Broadbeach councillor Paul Taylor moved in June for councillors to take at least two months to consider whether they would vote to review the CEO’s contract.

Mr Dickson has been with the council for 15 years and was just last month given a “high” rating on his performance review by Mayor Tom Tate.

Council sources have told the Bulletin Mr Dickson is expected to be offered a 12month contract.

He has previously been on a four-year contract which was extended for a year by Cr Tate.

The discussion has been listed on the agenda as “Staff Matter (Confidential)”.

Last month Cr Tate called a closed-door meeting to discuss “restructure” within the council.

The Bulletin understands that meeting was to discuss the future of the CEO.

The vote is expected to be close with many councillors previously declaring public support for Mr Dickson.

Cr Tate declined to answer questions regarding Mr Dickson, saying “no comment”.
