I’VE been pretty much on the sidelines about the proposal to fill in Black Swan Lake because I had never seen it.

I took at look at it recently and was shocked to see what a vibrant little place it is. There were many species of birds there in large numbers and the water looked remarkably clean.

Mayor Tom Tate and the other environmental vandals on the council should hang their heads in shame. This delightful little backwater must be left alone to protect the wild life.

I sincerely hope our state government steps in and reverses this insane decision. I will never vote for anyone who supports destroying this remote oasis and I urge others to do the same. STAN BLACK, GOLD COAST THE headlines in the GCB (2/8) suggest the world is coming to an end because ASF didn’t gain approval for their proposed resort.

If ASF director Louis Chien wants to lash out and play the blame game he should start with former Premier Newman when the latter’s government named ASF as the “possible preferred proponent” before they lost power.

After that the mayor talked it up as though it was a done deal. The presence of an ASF office at the Broadwater parkland reinforced this impression (and made many residents wonder what was going on behind the scenes).

Meanwhile the local authorities neglected The Spit (assuming that it would be massively developed?).

It is ideal as much-needed parklands – note that the mayor in his latest rates newsletter, Community News, is extolling the virtues of a “clean and green” city.

Philip Park has already been designated “a park” and should remain so, not become part of an inappropriate cruise ship terminal. DOROTHY LLOYD WE ARE being hoodwinked into believing the State Government is giving away 13,000 jobs by not going ahead with the ASF casino.

Can someone tell me where that figure came from? My son has just finished working on his fourth highrise in Brisbane and all the workers on there did not add up to anywhere near that figure.

There is still a casino licence available to whatever company wants it but, of course, there seems to be little interest as they may have to buy the land themselves to build one and not be given the green light by the government to build on Crown land.

Why is Gold Coast so hellbent on another casino when cities in Australia with three times our population only have one?

It also appears Brisbane has no tradies on Centrelink as most of the workers are coming from the Gold Coast hence the M1 is gridlocked. KJB, SOUTHPORT SOME of us love the natural beauty of the Gold Coast.

For the past few days your articles regarding saving The Spit appear to be very biased. I moved to the GC in 1976 from the US and was attracted to the pristine natural green space environment, not concrete developments. MARIETTA MCDUELL
