Truffles are the guest of honour at an 8th Ave Terrace degustatio­n from 6pm. Head chef Chris Harrington will whip up smoked potato tortellini with shaved truffle; 63-degree duck egg with artichoke soup and gaufrette potato; seared scallops with cauliflowe­r and chicken skin; beef rossini; and white chocolate and blue cheese mousse. To top it off, they’ll be pouring magnums from the hills of France, Italy and Spain.

Palm Beach’s Blue Door on 5th will host a winemaker’s dinner showcasing Rieslingfr­eak from the Clare Valley. Chef Dylan Cashman has created a sixcourse tasting menu to match Rieslingfr­eak’s range, from sparkling to fortified. Dishes include kingfish with ginger, wakame, dashi crisp and beach rocket; Ballina king prawns; bug, miso, eggplant and macadamia; and an ice cream sandwich with cheddar and honey coffee. Tickets are $120.

AUGUST 25

Southport Sharks hosts its annual Tasmania Day event from 11.30am. True to tradition, the ladies’ and mens’ pre-lunch drinks and meal will be held separately. Ladies will be served a two-course menu including seared Tasmanian salmon in Carmody’s Restaurant & Bar. Men will dine in the Sharks Events Centre where they can finish with a trio of Tassie cheeses. Tickets are $40.
