KICKING THE CAN

AUSTRALIANS made their minds up about same-sex marriage a long time ago.

They want their elected representatives to look beyond the bubble they exist in and deal with this once and for all. Most people are in favour. It is no longer front of mind and it is not a topic at barbecues, if indeed it ever was.

Instead of allowing a bunch of MPs to keep kicking this can down the road into the next term, our politicians should formalise what the people want and move on to grapple with the issues critical for the nation’s future – creating permanent jobs, building a strong economy, housing for our kids, dealing with health, and in uncertain times ensuring the nation’s security.
