Injured Lynch is finished for season

- – ANDREW HAMILTON

DEAN Solomon’s stint as caretaker coach has suffered an immediate blow, with Suns skipper Tom Lynch’s season over because of a knee injury.

Key forward Lynch injured his PCL in the first marking contest of the match against Fremantle at Subiaco Oval last Saturday.

Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft said that tests had confirmed the worst for the reigning club champion.

“Usual circumstances would see Tom miss about a month of footy with the injury, but with just three matches remaining Tom won’t return this season,’’ he said.

Lynch has looked hampered by injury all year.

The Suns had previously revealed that a back injury was restricting the 2017 All Australian on the park.

Despite being below his best he has still booted 44 goals for the season.

Lynch’s knee was heavily strapped yesterday when he arrived at the club with the rest of the playing group to be told of the sacking of Suns coach Rodney Eade.

Solomon will be sweating on successful fitness tests for David Swallow, Jarrod Witts, Jarryd Lyons and Callum Ah Chee ahead of the QClash.

Brisbane took the honours when the two sides met earlier this year, stunning the Gold Coast with a 15.8 (98) to 14.12 (96) victory at Metricon Stadium. The return game is in Brisbane at The Gabba.
