Premier’s election warning

- PAUL WESTON

PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk has told Burleigh MP Michael Hart “we’re coming to get you” as Labor threatens to camp out on the Gold Coast during the state election.

The Premier’s response was in State Parliament after several Coast LNP MPs peppered her with questions about the delayed delivery of new trains needed to ensure a timetable for the Commonwealth Games.

Opposition leader Tim Nicholls held up several front pages of the Gold Coast Bulletin, including one headed “Derailed” about the new trains, during community Cabinet last week.

In response, Premier Palaszczuk singled out Coast MPs and showed the Government was preparing for an election possibly as early as October.

“I note there have been a lot of questions today from Gold Coast MPs. They must have loved our visit to the Gold Coast last week,” the Premier said.

“They loved having us down there. I love the Gold Coast. We love the Gold Coast.”

The Government faced a backlash last week after dumping the ASF Spit project and its promised 13,000 jobs.

Opposition frontbencher Jarrod Bleijie interjected, telling Ms Palaszczuk “the more you are on TV their poll numbers go up”.

Mr Hart asked the Premier why only 15 New Generation Rollingstock train units were in Queensland with the rest blocked from being delivered by Deputy Premier Jackie Trad.

“I love going to Burleigh. I will be spending a lot more time down there over the coming months,” the Premier replied. “We are coming to get you. Yes we are.”

Speaker Peter Wellington repeatedly asked Ms Palaszczuk to answer the question as she was heckled by Opposition MPs.

“We are doing everything we can to make sure that the 41 issues that have been identified on the new generation rolling stock are rectified as quickly as possible,” she said.
