Get star treatment

- ALISTER THOMSON alister.thomson@news.com.au

FORMER AFL star Austinn “Aussie” Jones and ex-police officer Travis Marsham are on a mission to bring sports-therapy treatments to the masses.

The pair has chosen the Gold Coast for their second P3 Sports & Recovery clinic, which opened recently in a 330sq m factory in Burleigh Heads.

Mr Marsham said they spent a significant amount of money bringing together what he believes is the most comprehensive range of sport therapy treatments and equipment on the Gold Coast.

The facility includes a wet therapy zone with a magnesium hydrotherapy pool, magnesium cold plunge pool, and hot and cold spas, while the dry therapy area has a recovery lounge, hyperbaric chamber, and infra-red sauna and physical therapy devices.

Mr Marsham said the Gold Coast was an ideal location for the clinic, which came after they launched their first operation in a 600sq m factory in Melbourne last year.

“There are so many active and healthy people on the Gold Coast,” he said.

“Obviously the Commonwealth Games are coming up so this is a way we can service athletes attending that event.”

Mr Marsham said champion surfer Mick Fanning and the Collingwood AFL team were among the athletes to visit the clinic since it opened its doors. However, he said the clinic was not just the domain of elite athletes.

He cited visits from an 11year-old boy who hurt his ankle and used the hyperbaric chamber, which enhances the body’s healing process via inhalation of 100 per cent oxygen in a body chamber, and a 70-year-old man with cancer who used the magnesium bath for pain relief.

“We are here for everyone from elite athletes, through to weekend warriors, or people getting back into fitness for the first time in 10 years.”

Mr Marsham, who has relocated to the Gold Coast from Melbourne to run the Burleigh Heads clinic, said they deliberately chose not to open a fitness centre due to the stiff competition on the Gold Coast.

“Every third shop here is a fitness facility,” he said.

“We don’t want to compete with them. We’re here to create relationships with the fitness centres and service their clients.”
