Sunday road carnage as four die in two crashes
TWO people were killed and two critically injured in a single-vehicle crash at Clothiers Creek in northern New South Wales yesterday.
The crash occurred south of Round Mountain Rd at 4.40pm and closed northbound lanes of the Pacific Motorway.
A New South Wales police spokeswoman told the Bulletin two women were believed to have been killed when their car ran off the road, while a man and teenage boy were reportedly in a critical condition. They were airlifted to hospital.
The tragedy came after two people died in a crash north of the Gold Coast at Buccan, near Yatala, yesterday.
Around 10.30am two vehicles crashed near the intersection of Cop lick Crescent and Waterford-Tamborine Road.
Preliminary investigations indicated a Toyota sedan was travelling south on WaterfordTamborine Road when it crossed into the northbound lane, hitting a Holden Jackaroo four-wheel-drive, causing the vehicle to roll on its side.
A Toyota Rav4 also travelling north then crashed into the Jackaroo.
The man and woman in the Toyota sedan, both aged 81 and from Stapylton, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jackaroo was taken to Logan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Four occupants of the Rav4, including two children, were also taken to hospital.
Waterford-Tamborine Road was closed for several hours.
