Sunday was hump day at Parklands

THE ride was bumpy but it was worth it for these kids as they finished their weekend on a high.

The Van Bennekom family of Upper Coomera enjoyed a Sunday walk through the Broadwater Parklands before spotting 600kg camels taking tourists and locals for rides on the Great Lawn.

Levi, 4, and Ella, 11, saddled up to ride Min Min the female camel while their siblings Jordan, 9, and Ashton, 6, rode Wilga who led the pack.

“It was really fun and bumpy,” Ella said,

Southern Cross Camels operator Lionel Keegan said he had been involved with camels since he caught some 30 years ago and trained them.

“They’re such a nice Mr Keegan said.

“People say they spit and bite, but they can’t spit. They don’t have a split lip. Once you tame them down they’re a good animal.”

He said his group of four on the day, including Fatima and Cheeky, were 18 to 30 years old. animal,”
