Yankee Rose is flying

-

DAVID Vandyke has sent out an SOS for a travelling companion for Yankee

Rose as she builds up for her return in next month’s $1 million Memsie Stakes.

Yankee Rose is booked on a flight to Melbourne on Wednesday.

Vandyke (pictured) is hoping to cut the $13,000 travelling expense in half by finding another horse to board the flight with her.

“If anyone wants a halfprice trip to Melbourne for their horse, there’s one there Wednesday,” he said on Radio TAB’s Past The Post yesterday.

“She will arrive at Cranbourne in the early hours of Thursday morning and she will trial next Monday.”

Vandyke is committed to a first-up run in the Memsie, citing the mare’s brilliant fresh record in the past, highlighted by her slightly unlucky second in the 2016 Golden Slipper.

Yankee Rose, a contender for Queensland’s Horse of the Year, has not raced since last year’s VRC Oaks, after which she had bone chips in her knee.

Then plans for a winter campaign were scuttled when she had “a touch of laminitis”.
