AN eccentric inventor has been held on suspicion of killing a female journalist who went missing during a trip on his submarine.

Peter Madsen was rescued when the homemade vessel sank but there was no sign of reporter Kim Wall, 30.

Madsen, 46, told police he had dropped her back onshore earlier. But officers do not believe his account and also suspect the 55ft UC3 Nautilus was sunk deliberately.

They raised the submarine near Copenhagen but a search completed on Sunday found no trace of Miss Wall.
