THE phrase “value for money” can not be applied to Titans recruit Jarryd Hayne (GCB, 12/8).

He was once a good player but leading the Eels to the 2009 Grand Final was eight years ago!

His sojourns into other domains before returning as the Titans million-dollar man may have taken their toll. Does he really know what he wants? I doubt it because his NRL performances have been mediocre for a guy mooted to be the Titans saviour.

Whether he is totally to blame I’m not sure as it was the Gold Coast management that offered him the contract. Perhaps he hoped he could honour that contract in the best possible way but sadly the Hayne Plane has continued to strike turbulence. KEN JOHNSTON

WITH the NBN unable to come up with goods it promised and slower than broadband I find it amusing we are being told things could be a 100 times faster than what we were promised with the butchered NBN.

Isn’t it about time this government admitted they sold us a pup?

Like many I am getting better download speeds than I will be when we are forced off ADSL and yet the Turnbull government refuses to admit the butchering of Labor’s NDN hasn’t created an inferior product. D.J. FRASER

WHY not legislate against persons who recklessly endanger the lives of those brave men and women who patrol our beaches?

In other words, those who chose to swim outside flagged areas etc could be charged with a life endangering offence.

Perhaps by doing this more people will think twice before doing these acts of stupidity and we will possibly see a drop in drownings. PETER MOY

MAYOR Tate, of the $13.8 million for the sand dredge off Surfers Paradise, would it be possible to use some of that money to dredge the sand in the Broadwater from the Grand Hotel to Lands End Bridge in front of Wave Break Island?

Actually do yourself a favour and just drive along Marine Parade at low tide and see how much sand has filled up the Broadwater.

If you cannot see the emergency in dredging this part of the Broadwater for safety reasons at least put some signs up. They could read: “No walking across to Wave Break Island during low tide as there are still deep holes in places”. ANGELO, BIGGERA WATERS

YET another government talk fest. This time electricity prices 10 years too late.

This all started once electricity was privatised. Saw the same with private health and told competition would make prices cheaper.

Has anyone ever seen cheaper prices due to privatisation? Some nube said higher electricity prices were being offset by cheaper petrol.

Oil per barrel went down from $117 a barrel to a low of $40 a barrel.

A 60 per cent plus reduction we have not come even close to a 60 per cent reduction in a litre of fuel from a high of $1.649 a couple of years ago. Yet we sit idly by and cop this rubbish each day. JFT
