Title: Watch Out, Snail Author: Gay Hay Illustrator: Margaret Tolland Publisher: Starfish Bay ★★★★

THIS is a picture book about no ordinary snail. It is a Powelliphanta snail from New Zealand.

The story is about how he has to dodge other animals while he goes out to get dinner.

This adventure takes place in a wonderful forest. The question is, does the snail find his dinner?

My favourite characters are the Snail, the Hedgehog and the Rat. I liked the Snail because he is the main character with a very shiny shell.

The language in the book is very descriptive with phrases such as “shimmering trail”, “gnarly roots” and “marauding teeth”.

If you like feeling things that are hard, soft or even smooth then you will love this book.

This picture book is gorgeously illustrated with a lot of colourful pictures by Margaret Tolland.

What grabbed my attention was all the beautiful pictures of nature and the environment.

This book by Gay Hay teaches children about animal life in nature.

I believe Watch Out, Snail should be recommended to children who are aged from four to eight years old.
