BETTY STILL IN THE SWING AS SHE MARCHES TO 100

91ST BIRTHDAY

-

BETTY Hall might have recently turned 91, but it certainly hasn’t stopped her from keeping up her golf.

In fact, the Club Banora Golf Club member still remains C grade club champion and plays every week.

Ms Hall said the secret to keeping fit in her older age was to always keep active.

“I play golf three times a week and still enjoy it,” Ms Hall said.

“If you sit around and do nothing, you’re finished up.”

She said she began playing golf when she was over 50 years old, but grew up playing tennis in the country.

Ms Hall said she grew up on a farm around the Griffith area where she spent her days helping her father around the farm.

“During the war I was my father’s right-hand man,” she said.

“I grew up on a rice farm and we ran sheep as well.”

If she wanted to go somewhere as a child, she needed to walk or ride a horse, she said, which also helped with keeping her fit.

Ms Hall said her life had been simple and always she made sure to eat sensibly.

“I don’t drink or smoke,” she said. “I have the occasional drink, but it doesn’t mean as much to me as some people. It’s been a simple life.”

Married in 1947 to an English Navyman, Ms Hall said she had been part of the Australian Women’s Army Service when she met her husband-tobe and convinced him to stay in Australia.

They had two sons together. Even though Ms Hall said she now used a scooter to get around, she had only been using it since she turned 80 – and still teed off without a hitch.
