TIGERSTIX FACING A LONG JINX IN FINALS

- TERRY WILSON terry.wilson@news.com.au

LABRADOR have to break a seven-year hoodoo when they tackle Commercial in the qualifying final of the Brisbane Hockey League this weekend.

The Tigerstix have never beaten Commercial in five BHL finals match, the closest being last season when they drew in a qualifying final.

Because they finished higher on the ladder the Cobras went into the major semi-final before Labrador were beaten in the minor semi-final.

This year the sides drew 3-3 (Round 8) before Commercial won 5-3 a fortnight ago.

So there is plenty to shoot for on Saturday (5pm) at the State Hockey Centre in the battle of second and third.

The good news is Labrador will get three internationals back after beating University of Queensland 5-3 last week.

Kookaburra squad member Dylan Wotherspoon, Brazilian Olympic Games player Adam Imer and Australian development squad member Corey Weyer will add significant firepower to the Tigerstix.

“We’re all excited to have those boys back in,” coach Simon Martin said.

“It means we will be at full strength for the third time this year coming into finals.

“From a playing perspective and manpower we couldn’t be any stronger for the rest of the campaign, barring injury.”

With veteran Olympian Brent Livermore and former Kookaburra Jason Wilson also on board, the Tigerstix lack nothing in the way of class.
