Car chase ends in dash through bush

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

POLICE arrested one person in custody and were hunting two others after a two-hour chase ended in a dash through bushland yesterday.

The trio were travelling in a ute which came to the attention of police at Hope Island due to “driving issues” around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon.

When police tried to pull them over, they sped away.

Police and PolAir tracked the ute to Oxenford where they allegedly tried to steal another car at Movie World.

When they failed, they were tracked across the Coast once more before police found the car at about 3.45pm.

Regional Duty Officer Inspector Gary Brown said police had cornered the car at a dead-end road on Mt Tamborine.

“They drove off into the bush and abandoned the vehicle,” he said, adding police deployed the dog squad to help find the suspects.

One man was arrested shortly after but the second man and a woman believed to be involved remain at large.
