Concrete silo sports smart new look

- ANDREW POTTS Lifeline, 13 11 14

A SOUTHPORT “eyesore” has been transformed into a celebration of the suburb’s history.

The stark white paint job on the Nucrush facility on Southport-Nerang Road has been replaced by vibrant blue imagery to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.

The 13m-tall art, by local artist Dean Cogle, features images of Southport buildings as they appeared in the 1960s.

Michelle Neumann said the art was a thank you to Southport and had been developed over a six-month period.

“We wanted to leave a lasting legacy behind here in Southport and we hope the town loves the artwork. I honestly believe that art can bring the community together and Dan did a marvellous job.”

The Neumann family have been a big part of the community since the 1920s.

Cement and sand which has gone through their seven concrete plants has been used in the building of such structures as the Commonwealth Games Indoor Sports Centre and the new Hypercoaster at Movie World.
