Clarke in pitch to tourists

-

ELEVEN years after his ex, Lara Bingle, infamously asked international audiences “Where the bloody hell are you?”, former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke will become a “Friend of Australia” for the peak national tourism body.

Clarke has been appointed a national tourism ambassador to India, one of Australia’s most important markets due largely to the tens of millions of middle-class citizens cashed up and ready to travel.

Fellow former cricket stars Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath and Adam Gilchrist have also filled the role.

Federal Tourism Minister Steve Ciobo said Clarke was a perfect fit to promote Australia to cricket-mad Indians.

“He’s a star in India. Clarke will resonate with this important market,” he said.
