Media reform bid stalls

THE Turnbull government is unlikely to pass sweeping media reforms until next month after negotiations with key crossbencher Nick Xenophon stalled.

But Mr Xenophon and Communications Minister Mitch Fifield reached an inprinciple agreement on a number of measures.

The reforms would allow the merger of companies which own radio, newspaper and television assets in the same market.
