Jobless rate falls

-

AROUND 27,000 Queenslanders found work in July, according to official figures, which helped the unemployment rate fall to 6.2 per cent from 6.5 per cent.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics put Queensland behind NSW on 5.0 per cent, Victoria on 6.1 per cent, and the national rate of 5.6 per cent.

Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt credited the figures to the government’s job creation initiatives such as Back To Work and Works for Queensland. “Since coming to office the Palaszczuk government has achieved more than 94,500 net new jobs in Queensland,” he said.
