No alarming series leader

- JAMES PHELPS

SCOTT McLaughlin is a petrol tank half-full not halfempty type of guy.

The Supercars championship leader claims he is not feeling the pressure of the chasers before this weekend’s Sydney SuperSprint, starting with practice today.

Leading the championship by 126 points and chasing his first drivers’ title, McLaughlin has everything to lose at Sydney Motorsport Park. Not that you’d know it.

“Really this situation is exciting for me,’’ the Ford young gun said.

“And I am counting my lucky stars. I am in a great team and I am in a great position. And I have a great teammate pushing me too. I can’t be anything other then excited by the rest of the year. You can either feel the pressure or the excitement.’’

Hot on the 24-year-old’s heels is a pack made up of some of the most talented drivers in Supercars history.

Jamie Whincup won his first race of the season last month and is in second.
