Critics slam CBD resort plan ‘crazy’
DOUBLE OR NOTHING
SOUTHPORT MP Rob Molhoek is leading an avalanche of criticism against Mayor Tom Tate’s vision for a CBD casino resort on tracts of public land.
Mr Molhoek, calling a proposed central Southport site “crazy”, joined Tennis Gold Coast president Mike Ford and ex-councillor Eddy Sarroff to condemn it yesterday.
Mayor Tate has written to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, who recently terminated ASF’s five-tower casino resort plan for The Spit, urging her to back his Plan B to supercharge jobs and development.
His vision is for a casino resort and retail precinct to rival Melbourne’s Crown complex across a 6.7-hectare site, requiring relocation of Southport Bowls Club and the popular neighbouring tennis centre.
