Lankan Rupee’s future still clouded

- LINCOLN MOORE

THE immediate racing future of Lankan Rupee remains unclear after his Spring Stakes flop at Morphettville on Saturday.

The former Australian Horse of the Year was found to be suffering from a EIPH (exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage) or a minor bleeding attack in a post-race scope. Trainer Mick Price said it wasn’t uncommon in racehorses and the five-time Group 1 winner would be assessed after treatment.

Spring Stakes winner Mio Dio now will chase consecutive Adelaide features in the Listed Penny Edition Stakes over 1400m at Morphettville on September 2. Part-owner John Kelton said Mio Dio continued to exceed expectations having now record more than $230,000 in prizemoney in less than 12 months.

“Will (Clarken) has done an amazing job with the horse,’’ Kelton said.

The 1400m Penny Edition feature also shapes as the next outing for Spring Stakes placegetters Lord Aspen and Casino Wizard.

Lord Aspen made a sweeping run with Mio Dio and finished 1.4 lengths behind the winner and boasts a good record over the 1400m including a Flemington win last November.
