Crims stop for fuel during chase

-

POLICE Union president Ian Leavers says criminals are “laughing” at Queensland’s ‘no chase’ policy after one alleged offender had time to stop and refuel while being followed by helicopter.

“The criminals are laughing at us and the community are dumbfounded: they ask me why police are not allowed to pursue offenders,” he said.

A QPS spokesperson said the stolen car was tracked by helicopter from Logan to Brisbane, back to the Gold Coast and eventually over the border in the early hours of yesterday.

NSW police eventually apprehended a 27-year-old man and 24-year-old woman in Pottsville. The man was charged a number of driving offences and also with possessing a prohibited drug. He was refused bail.

The woman was charged with being carried in conveyance without consent, enter enclosed lands, and possess prohibited drug. She was bailed to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on September 18.
