JESSIE HARRISON Year 6 St Francis Xavier

ST FRANCIS Xavier students showcased their abilities at the school’s 2017 talent quest where finalists performed to audiences of more than 500 friends and families. More than 40 students including Charlotte McAuley and Chanelle Crowe of Year 2 (pictured) showcased their talents including singing and dancing, plus more unusual acts such as hula hooping. The 2017 junior talent quest winner was Samara Wheeler from Prep Red, who sang a number from the stage production of Matilda. Year 3 singer Mia Abra was second and dancer Emily McLean, also Year 3, was third.

The 2017 senior winner was Edwina Vasallo from 4 Red, who also performed a song from Matilda. In second place was a group of Year 6 comedians performing the Angle Song.

Contestants enjoyed the opportunity to perform in front of friends and family. Senior winner Edwina Vasallo admitted she still had butterflies before performing on stage.

“It felt amazing when I won, especially because I also won the junior contest last year,” she said.

“But I was still really nervous when I was performing.” Judge Tia Harker said the competition was “very tight and all participants did extraordinarily well”. “The event was a pleasure to watch and all contestants did really well,” she said.

“I loved watching all the different acts on stage.”
