CHAMPS
A GOLD Coast school has been being named World Champion in Languages.
Benowa State High School was among 1300 schools worldwide vying for the title.
“Our students had the biggest smiles on their faces when the announcement was made,” head of languages Cathryn Cooper said.
“They were ecstatic to take out the 2017 title but it was no easy feat, with fierce competition from Australia and from around the world.
“Our French students were determined not to lose after five years of winning the competition (and) our Japanese students were thrilled to receive first place.”
Ms Cooper said the school’s Italian students also finished second place in the world.
The Language Perfect World Championships is a 10-day online competition that tracks the progress of students as they translate vocabulary between their selected languages.
Students can log in as many times as they like throughout the competition, which attracts 300,000 competitors every year.
It is the world’s largest online languages event and is open to all schools.
Education Perfect global projects manager Tania Christie made a presentation to the triumphant Benowa High School students at a ceremony last week.
