Fiery meeting ends with walkout

-

A REBEL group of Nerang RSL members have stormed out of a fiery showdown with the club bosses and board.

The rebel group, unhappy with major recent financial decisions, were granted a special general meeting at the club yesterday.

But five minutes into it a group of about 30 walked out.

Their spokesman Ben Chesterfield said he asked for an independent chair to run the meeting, refused by president Terry McDonald.

Mr Chesterfield then attempted a vote of no confidence in the board and was told to be quiet or he’d be removed – so he walked out with the rebels in tow.

His group are questioning why the Advancetown Hotel was sold and running at a loss, and why the Canungra RSL had incurred a loss in its most recent year.

RSL principle executive officer Andrew McInnes told the Bulletin: “It was disappointing that the members would pose five questions and not allow us to respond in full. The fact that they walked out early also proved that they weren’t very interested in hearing the full answers and facts, to each of the questions posed.”
