TIGERSTIX SCORE EIGHT AS GRANDER TEST AWAITS

HOODOO gurus Labrador’s new place in history has confidence peaking ahead of their quest for a place in the Brisbane Hockey League grand final.

Buoyed by a full roster for one of the first times this season, the Tigerstix snapped a four-year jinx against Commercial in last Saturday’s qualifying final.

The 8-1 drubbing of their long-time bogy side was the biggest winning margin in a BHL semi-final since Easts beat Redcliffe 7-0 in 2002.

That lofty place in the history books has Labrador primed for another big showing when they face minor premiers Easts on Saturdayfor a spot in the decider.

Fresh from an overseas trip with the Australian development squad, Corey Weyer was a star against Commercial, scoring Labrador’s first three goals inside the first 11 minutes.

Weyer ended up with four for the game and the other scorers were Brazilian international Imer, Jason Wilson, Reardon and Tate Weyer.

Saturday’s win was, according to club stalwart Joe Reardon, probably Labrador’s best win.

“To win a semi 8-1 it certainly is up there with our best results,” Reardon said.

“It was the first time for a while we had our full team available with Corey Weyer, Dylan Wotherspoon and Adam Imer back with us.”

Tigerstix are the only team to beat Easts this year, winning 2-0 at Keith Hunt Park in Round 10.

“They have a quality side and they’ve picked up two international standard players since we last beat them,” Reardon said.

The additions to the Easts side are Mark Knowles and Matt Gohdes.

In the weekend’s elimination final, Pine Rivers-St Andrews beat University of Queensland 3-1 and will now play Commercial in Saturday’s minor semi-final.
