IT has taken the de facto Minister for the Gold Coast Kate Jones to stand up for our subbies. The $1 million owed to companies working on the Commonwealth Games village is a piffling amount to a developer of Grocon’s scale but is more than enough to bankrupt small businesses. The fact subcontractors were working on a government-backed project should have offered them an extra layer of protection. Hopefully this matter is sorted and we can get on with the Games.
