HARRIET ADDS ANOTHER TROPHY TO CABINET
NORTHCLIFFE surf lifesaver Harriet Brown has taken out the top award at the Surf Life Saving Queensland Awards of Excellence, adding to her swiftly-filling trophy cabinet.
Brown, the current Queensland Ironwoman Champion, was named the Queensland Athlete of the Year, beating out five other nominees for the award.
SLSQ CEO John Brennan said it was important it is for the athletes to compete in surf sports competitions and maintain their levels of fitness for patrol season.
“While all surf lifesavers across Queensland do a great job on the beach, it’s important that we recognise and acknowledge those who go above and beyond the line of duty to protect anyone who visits our patrolled beaches,” he said.
Brown is also a World Ironwoman Champion and Kellogg’s Ironwoman series champion, recently winning two individual and three team medals at this season’s Queensland Championships.
Other Gold Coast award winners were:
John Hamrey, Volunteer of the Year (Bilinga SLSC)
Hayley Bowers, 18-25 Young Surf Lifesaver of the Year (Pacific SLSC)
Harriet Brown, Athlete of the Year (Northcliffe SLSC)
Lucas Miller, Junior Athlete of the Year (Northcliffe SLSC)
Toby Wilson, 15-18 Youth Athlete of the Year (Northcliffe SLSC)
Lee Vrolyks, Masters Athlete of the Year (Northcliffe SLSC)
Mermaid Beach AEME SLSC, Youth Development Club of the Year.
