Mature Colts aim up in league fight

-

THE Coomera Colts will be kicking on in Gold Coast Premier League next year after surviving their relegation-promotion playoff against Nerang.

The Colts held on for a 1-all draw against the Eagles in the second leg of the playoff at Glennon Park on Saturday to back up their dominant 5-1 win in the first leg at Viney Park on Tuesday night.

Nerang, who finished third in Coast League 1 this year, needed to win the second leg 4-0 and early on sent a few palpitations through the Coomera camp when Josh Hockings scored.

But Bill Buckley landed the equaliser and handed the Colts a 6-2 aggregate win which puts his team in the new-look 2018 Premier League competition alongside promoted Tweed United and Mudgeeraba.

Coomera had finished last in the eight-club Premier League this year before it was expanded to 10 for 2018.

The top two sides from the second-tier competition had already won promotion to the Premier League for next season, with the Colts then forced to face third-placed Nerang for the right to keep their hopes for 2018 alive.
