PRE-FINALS HORROR SHOW NO WORRIES FOR PBC

- TERRY WILSON terry.wilson@news.com.au

COACH Chad Owens insists a horrible pre-finals performance by Palm BeachCurrumbin is one that can be rectified by next weekend.

Just a week out from a QAFL qualifying final against Broadbeach, PBC turned in a shocker on Saturday away to bottom side Sandgate, tossing in the towel early before losing by a massive 25.12 (162) to 9.9 (63) at Lemke Road Oval.

In anyone’s language that is not a good sign– a 99-point thumping from the wooden spooners – although Owens remains positive.

“Not a lot happened for us,” Owens said in something of an understatement.

“They jumped us from the start. But we’ll be right.”

Sandgate led by 52 points at half-time and by 50 at three-quarter time but put on 11.1 to 3.0 in an embarrassing final stanza by the Lions.

The positive for PBC is that they should get back a number of key players next weekend – among them Jake Dignan, Jackson Emblem and Dylan Troutman.

Broadbeach grabbed the finals double chance after beating Morningside by 17.15 (117) to 14.5 (89) at Ord Minnett Oval.

With Mt Gravatt losing to

Labrador, the Cats took third spot with an impressive win.

The kick-start came from exciting Papua New Guinea teenager Kelly Kaugla, who kicked a brilliant individual goal in the first 10 seconds.

Benji Neal and Jack O’Shea on-ball and half-back Jason Sharp stood out for the Cats.

At Cooke-Murphy Oval Labrador lost full-forward Barry Hall (hamstring tightness) and full-back Jayden Young (groin) at half-time but still managed an impressive 17.13 (115) to 9.12 (66) win against Mt Gravatt.

Hall kicked five goals before his departure but his absence did not stop the Tigers, in fact they played better and better as time wore on.

Hall later said his injury was nothing serious.

Surfers Paradise scored only one goal in the first half yet still beat Wilston-Grange by 7.20 (62) to 6.9 (45) at Sir Bruce Small Park.
