Peats backs players to turn things around

-

“We’ve got a good squad here and hopefully we can be injury free next year and play a bit better.”

Peats said portrayals of the playing group as mercenaries attempting to engineer the downfall of the coach had not disappointed him given he knew they were untrue.

“Don’t believe everything you read, we know as a playing group it wasn’t true,” he said.

“We’re not a very senior team. We’ve got three or four of us that are the senior group and if anyone was going to try and get rid of the coach it’d probably be one of us four and we were the four that were trying to get King (Henry) to stay.

“To say that there were five or 10 players trying to get rid of the coach is a load of s*** and that’s why I got a bit defensive about it because I knew it was all lies.

“I feel for King, I’m obviously disappointed with what’s happened but that’s life sometimes and I’m sure he’ll move on and we have to move on.”

Peats captained the Titans on Saturday in the absence of Ryan James but his season is over after another shoulder dislocation that will ensure he goes under the knife in the offseason. Jarrod Wallace will also be missing after being handed a grade three shoulder charge for his hit on Moses Mbye midway through the first half on Saturday.

Ryan James (shoulder) could return but Dale Copley (groin) will be missing, leaving the Titans scratching for backline options with Konrad Hurrell (hamstring), John Olive (elbow), Dan Sarginson (shoulder) and Tyrone RobertsDavis (shoulder), all out for the remainder of the season.

It’s a frustrating end to the year but Peats can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“On to bigger and brighter things next year,” he said.
