Relax, it’s the Goldie

-

SUNCREAM, a boogie board, and maybe a book were always thought to be the most important items to take when you head to the beach.

But a new survey in the UK has found some 35 per cent of people said their smartphone was the most essential item when they hit the sand.

It rates ahead of a book or a swimming costume, which only half as many people said was their most important item for a trip to the seaside.

The reason is simple. A third of people in the O2 survey said they used their time on the beach to download music, podcasts, and e-books. They are using their smartphones to help them relax.

Carrara man Navdeep Pasricha said he often listened to music and audio books while relaxing at Burleigh Heads beach.

“I love audio books about leadership and human interpersonal interactions and emotional intelligence,” he said.

“I am studying part-time and I run a mental health organisation outside of that called iYouth which helps build ‘teenpreneurs’ and teach app design.

“We run workshops about overcoming social anxiety, but they can be really confronting for a teenager, so we reframe them as how to network for business.

“We are all university students and have impacted 10,000 lives over the past two years.”

Mr Pasricha, 20, recently tried out a pair of noise-cancelling Sennheiser headphones.

Blocking out other distractions they make it so much easier to relax and enjoy your music, or watch one of our news videos.

“People need to plan to be idle,” he said.

“It is important to find ways to chill out, whether that is at the beach listening to music or putting your feet in the water.”
