Man charged with holding girlfriend
A MARKETING and sales expert who allegedly tried to flood a Surfers Paradise unit, trapped his girlfriend and threatened her with a knife has been denied bail.
The 29-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have flooded a Beachcombers unit on Hanlon St in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Beachcombers was evacuated for about three hours while emergency crews dealt with the flooding.
The man has been charged with deprivation of liberty, wilful damage and assault.
It will be alleged that during the ordeal he set fire to items in the unit.
Magistrate Gary Finger said the man was too big of a risk to the safety of his girlfriend.
The matter was adjourned to September 22.
