AS A local resident for 55 years, I write in shear frustration over money being spent on tram extensions before we have a system of intelligent synchronised traffic lights.
What should be simpler than, for example, a return beach trip from Nerang to the Spit?
This involves negotiating 60 sets of lights of which on a bad day about 40 will be red.
The tram affects only about 10 per cent of the population but the traffic light debacle affects almost every one.

I STRONGLY oppose the Turf Club’s plan to turn the Black Swan Lake into a carpark.
It is a delightful habitat for native birds, with several nesting black swans there now.
The Gold Coast City Council gave the lake and surrounding area to the Turf Club.
The area is public property. Many councillors are members of the Turf Club, and some even are board members.
Will you be happy when the Gold Coast is bitumen, concrete and glass, with no green spaces?
People on the Gold Coast need to be aware of this situation.

CAN a politician please explain why we need to spend $122 million on a plebiscite where the government already accepts same sex partnerships through Centrelink?
Why not allow them to be married by a celebrant, not through the church? Then we are not upsetting any religions and the government can increase disability funding instead of decreasing the funding as is happening now.

COMMONWEALTH Games Village fiasco with talks regarding non-payment to contractors.
The silence from the militant unions is deafening, not a mouse squeak from them about protecting the workers’ wages.

BOUQUET to Pauline Hanson for wearing a burqa into the Senate chamber and brickbats to crybaby George Brandis.
Islam is now established in Australia, a country founded on Christian principles, and Muslims are continuing to be allowed to settle with approval of many politicians.
The effect of this situation is security expenditure in excess of $3 billion annually and rising.
This is because we have allowed barbarians into our country.

TOP marks to Uber. I live alone aged 72 and am having chemo.
I downloaded the app which is so easy to use.
They come direct to my door usually within eight minutes. They inform me all the way if any heavy traffic etc is causing delays and provide a map showing where they are along their route.
My stress is zero by the time we get there. After the treatment they are there within minutes to pick me up at the hospital.
It’s like a friend pick me up. I sit in the front and we chat.
