Proctor in frame for captain return

- MURRAY WENZEL

KEVIN Proctor could have his leadership credentials reinstated following Gold Coast’s run of injuries to senior players.

The New Zealand representative was fined, suspended and stripped of the co- captaincy in May when sensationally caught in a cocaine bust after a Test against Australia.

Injuries have also struck the forward since then, but he is likely to pass a concussion test this week and play in the Titans’ final game of the season against Sydney.

It will be up to club officials to decide if he is listed with the “C” beside his name today.

But it could be the only option given the club’s current state of affairs. Interim captain Nathan Peats is facing surgery after dislocating his shoulder in Saturday’s loss to Canterbury, while usual skipper Ryan James is no certainty to overcome his own shoulder injury.

Accepting an early guilty plea for a shoulder charge, Jarrod Wallace will miss the next three games, while Dale Copley (groin) and Jarryd Hayne are unlikely option. Veteran winger William Zillman and versatile forward Joe Greenwood are among the options.

“It’d be good to wear the captain’s band, but they will probably give it to an older senior player like Will,” Greenwood said.
