NEW WAY TO RAISE THE KIDS

- KRISTY MUIR

GIVE three cheers for these mothers and daughters.

These six women are part of an adult-only cheer team based at Mega Cheer in Burleigh Heads.

The team is in its second year and is set to defend its national title at the AASCF National Cheer and Dance Championships in Melbourne in November.

Burleigh Heads motherand-daughter PJ and Soraya LeMarshall are two of the 25 members of the squad.

“Cheerleading makes exercise fun,” PJ said.

“Even though I am completely covered in bruises after it.

“Safety comes first but if we fall ... we just laugh.

“I got into cheerleading because my youngest daughter Kira was doing it. “Now we are all involved.” PJ’s daughter Soraya, 18, told the Bulletin the chance to compete with her mum made being in the team “extra special”.

“We’re all flyers and have to trust our bases,” Soraya said. “And who else do we trust more than our mums?

“We are really proud of them and our whole team.”
