Guru jailed 20 years

A SELF-STYLED “godman” in India has been sentenced to 20 years jail for two rapes but a shoot-to-kill order, curfew and heavy police presence kept protesters at bay.

Last week, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s followers went on a deadly rampage after he was convicted.

A spokesman for the Central Bureau of Investigation, which investigated the case, said that Singh would serve two consecutive 10-year-terms for the two rape convictions.

It had earlier been announced they would be served concurrently.
