Hurst on Hackett: ‘It’s the fittest and leanest I’ve seen him’

- RYAN KEEN

GOLD Coast champion ironman turned America’s Cup grinder Ky Hurst believes good buddy Grant Hackett’s life is back on track.

Hurst, who had a stint as a grinder for America’s Cup runner-up Team Oracle in Bermuda in June, said the pair had been hitting the gym every day on the Coast.

“He is going really well, he’s training really well. We have been in the gym every day since I have been back.

“We’ve been in there together and it’s the fittest and leanest I have ever seen Grant look.”

Hackett has come a long way since his much-publicised breakdown at his parents’ home on the Gold Coast in February.

Back then he was arrested after flying into a rage and taken to Southport Watchhouse where he was released hours later.

Hackett re-emerged publicly in August, heading out for a night “on the soft drinks” at The Star’s Garden bar in Broadbeach with Hurst and fellow swim star Cam McEvoy.

“He is looking exceptionally healthy and he’s happy – he’s in a good place,” Hurst said.
