Fine for shock gym attack

AN alleged bikie who walked into a Broadbeach gym and repeatedly punched a man in the face has walked from court with a fine.

Magistrate Mark Howden fined Brodie Smith, 26, $1000 for affray after the court was told he and two other men walked into a gym at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre to confront a man over a grievance.

The trio asked the receptionist to be let in to review the facilities but after walking down a corridor and arriving into the gym area, the court was told Smith unleashed a series of punches at a man.

The alleged victim fell to the ground in the process of getting away and Smith stood over the top of him and delivered more blows before leaving the gym.

His lawyer, Michael Gatenby, said statements provided to the court indicated witnesses were not particularly concerned by the display.

He said his client was a chef and travelled to Kingscliff each day to hold down his job.
