Delay for Sainsbury
CASSIE Sainsbury was to have learnt yesterday exactly what Colombian prosecutors have against her but, with no translator available to explain what was going on in English, the case was adjourned.
Sainsbury, 22, appeared briefly in a Bogota court at the first hearing in her trial. Her lawyer, Orlando Herran, said the hearing was for the prosecution to establish their case.
The South Australian has been in custody since April 12 when she was caught trying to smuggle 5.9kg of cocaine to London after a tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Agency.
The former gym owner and sex worker last month took the risky decision to go to trial after scuttling a plea bargain agreed to by her lawyers and prosecutors. Sainsbury insisted she had been threatened into carrying the drugs
The case was adjourned to September 26.
