Leadership void forced young

- EMMA GREENWOOD

ANTHONY Don says several younger players will benefit from a tumultuous Titans season after being forced to step into the leadership void.

The Titans lost more than 1000 games of experience at the end of last season with the departure of players including captain Nathan Friend, Greg Bird, Zeb Taia and Luke Douglas.

Don said while the loss of that experience had been noticeable to an extent, the opportunities for other players – especially young leaders Ryan James, Kevin Proctor and Nathan Peats — would benefit the club in the long-term.

“I think all of the guys in their absence have stepped up, which has given them an opportunity,” Don said.

“Nathan Peats and obviously Kevin Proctor and Ryan James, they’ve had to show leadership and have been in the captaincy role. (The senior players) leaving, it gave those young guys a chance and hopefully in the next couple of years, we reap rewards for that.”

Don, who turns 30 at the end of September, said that he had also tried to take more of a leadership role in what now
