QR cleared to recruit

THE Queensland government has been cleared to start external recruitment of train drivers, after the Rail Tram and Bus Union attempted to block the move.

The RTBU lodged a formal dispute with QR, however the Fair Work Commission yesterday ruled in the government’s favour. Advertising for drivers not already employed by Queensland Rail will start today as originally scheduled.

External recruitment of train crew was one of the key recommendations of the Strachan report into QR’s systemic rostering failures which came to a head last year
