High-speed crash on dashcam

- EMILY SELLECK

A WITNESS who filmed a high-speed crash on the Gold Coast’s motorway says the driver who allegedly caused it “shot past like a rocket”.

The witness, who caught the drama on a dashcam, said he was going 103km/h when easily passed by the alleged culprit’s car on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Coomera.

The vehicle – heading south about 9.30pm on Friday – was weaving through traffic before merging from the fourth lane into the third but allegedly failed to give way to a car in front.

Footage shows the alleged culprit’s vehicle appearing to rear-end that car which hits a guard rail and flips on its roof.

The other car skids for about 50m before losing control and spinning 360 degrees.

The flipped car’s driver and sole occupant – a 31-year-old Kedron woman – were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for observation.

A 23-year-old Eagleby man faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving unregistered, driving an unsafe vehicle, using a vehicle with a registration plate belonging to another, being a learner driver failing to comply with requirements and driving without L plates.
