More trouble for hit and run accused

-

A MAN who allegedly mowed down a pedestrian using a four-wheel drive in Surfers Paradise in August has been remanded in custody on unrelated charges.

Anthony Melit, 38, faced Southport Magistrates Court yesterday charged with breaching his bail conditions and breaching a domestic violence order.

He was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle which allegedly occurred on Sunday at Runaway Bay.

Police allege Melit committed the fresh offences while on bail for allegedly using a green four-wheel drive to mow down a pedestrian walking on the footpath on Trickett St about 5.30am on August 19.

The man was rushed to hospital and treated for a broken leg.

Melit handed himself in to Southport Police station on Saturday August 21 and was released on bail a few days later.

He was remanded in custody on the fresh charges until his next court appearance on September 15.
