FESTIVAL’S FLOWER POWER

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

SOMETIMES it’s the simple things that work best.

Armed with flexible and colourful pipe-cleaners, Anabella and Keilana Stanford-Modini from Nerang carefully crafted flower crowns in preparation for the third annual Inside Out festival at Southport’s Brickworks Centre this Sunday.

Visitors to the festival, which features food and drink, fashion, art, live music and a range of family activities, can take part in the creative process for free courtesy of Southport florist Fleurus.

Fleurus owner Mardi Dodwell said the use of pipe-cleaners was a happy accident when they were looking to use something that could be pulled apart and remade.

“Flower crowns are on trend right now,” she said.

“We use real flowers that we precut. It’s really nice for everybody to get involved and celebrate spring.”

Mum Sharaz StanfordModini said the girls absolutely loved being shown how to twist the crown together.

“They really enjoyed it,” she said, adding they wore the crown all the way home.
